Job Purpose Campus Recreation Services at Towson University is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director, Business Operations. The Associate Director, Business Operations reports to the Director of Campus Recreation and serves as a member of the departmental senior leadership team providing strategic direction and oversight of departmental marketing and communication, membership and guest services, personnel management, financial management and budget forecasting, data analysis and reporting, and oversight of technological systems along with the evaluation of programs, services and operations to meet the needs of the University community. This position will direct tasks, projects, initiatives, and leadership in a manner that promotes student engagement, development and success in addition to patron and alumni engagement. This position manages and directs professional staff in the areas of Business & Guest Services, Marketing & Communication, and Student Personnel.
Description Serve as a member of the departments Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and represent the department and/or director at various departmental, divisional, and university events. Provides collaborative visioning and direction in the development of programs, services, operations, and long and short-term strategic planning. Supervise, evaluate and provide administrative direction/guidance to three full-time professional staff members in the areas of Marketing & Communication, Business & Guest Services, and Student Personnel and assists the Director with evaluation and administrative oversight of the departmental Budget Manager. Train, manage and evaluate direct reports on overall fiscal management of assigned programmatic budgets. Provide leadership and direction regarding communication between team members directly reporting to the SLT. Oversee all accounting procedures related to payment processing for memberships, program registration and point of sale operations. Develop strategies and implement action plans to execute all fundraising and development goals of the department. Establish a vision and implement strategies to increase Campus Recreation exposure and revenue generation. Provide overall direction and management related to the operations of Innosoft Fusion, the recreation management software program, including the online web portal. Work in collaboration with Administration & Finance to serve as and/or oversee the Campus Recreation Office Financial Reconciler to coordinate and reconcile financial transactions with the Bursars Office and Towson University Financial Services and the Deposit Management System (DMS). Manage and assist with annual budget review, financial reporting and planning for department related to revenue generation, membership sales and point of sale operations for all programs and operations. Provide leadership and direction on departmental technology usage, hardware, software services inventory, and usage assessment. Oversee the onboarding and exiting processes for departmental professional staff members in collaboration with the administrative assistant. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and five years of work experience in the areas of quality assurance, technical training, project assessment, budget and fiscal planning, project management, marketing, and/or communication in the field of public relations, business administration, higher education administration, recreation and/or sport administration. The selected candidate must have superior communication, interpersonal and organization skills; quality customer service; experience developing and delivering presentations to groups; experience with and/ or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment; and current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Master’s degree in in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Sport Administration, Recreation Management, Business Administration, Human Resources or related field; experience working in a collegiate recreational or sport/fitness facility; in-depth knowledge and experience working with a recreation facility management software system, membership sales system, or point of sale software system; experienced based skills in writing press releases, newsletters and/or web content; experience developing sponsorship packages as a source of long-term revenue generating opportunities and fiscal management; and CPR and First Aid instructor certified.
